i am in the u.k, are hospitals here the same as in america? do they provide alot?

ooooh camera! lol! that would be useful, i'd forgotten that!!! lol

Sounds like you are more then prepared. When I had my baby I just made sure I had enough stuff for me to be comfortable. And, really all you need for the baby is an outfit to come home in (maybe an extra in case) A blanket or two, depending on weather and a hat or two for the trip home. You shouldn’t need diapers or wipes or anything. The hospital will provide all that. And, make sure to have the car seat ready, which you probably already do. Congrats! It so exiting!

You definitly have all the bases covered. In fact I bet you don’t end up using half the stuff you have packed, but it is good to be prepared.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

I think you did pretty good. You may not need the shampoo yet though. Make sure you bring a phone book also, so you can have all the people you may need to call after the baby is delivered, and make sure you bring some things to comfort you. Even though you’ll probally be spending all the time you get taking naps ( I’m sure you’ll be sleepy and tired ), you still want to bring stuff to entertain your self, such as magazines or book that you like. Maybe even some music. Congrats and Good Luck!

the only thing i would suggest is more breast pads and also more maternity towels.. depending on how long your stay that wont be enough! i usually go through about 2-3 packets of maternity towels.. eveyone is different though,

    good luck x

I don’t think your going to be needing so much for the baby, allot of those things they give you at the hospital.Like baby shampoo you can’t give it a bath anyways at first and if you did need it the have everything for it,and I don’t think you need so many close for it,but a couple of things you might want to bring is pads that are comfortable for you because I diden’t like the ones at the hospital and don’t foget you cell phone charger if you have a cell phone.

First of all. If you have the baby the natural vaginal way you be in the hospital just for two days.. If you having a c section you be there 4 to 5 days. That a whole lot and I didn’t bring that much stuff with me at all.
The only thing you would need for the baby is home outfit to bring it in a blanket to cover it with if it cold outside and the carseat. The hospital has diapers and wipes there already. Also they have prepared formula with nipples if needed. Thinking you be breastfeeding. Nursing pads
always needed. The baby would be getting a sponge bath. Nursing bra I would bring.

Hey! Looks like you’ve got it all! I had all that in my bag + camera, cam recorder, my ipod, lavender pot pouri (might sound strange but it comforted me) and a couple of magazines. I didn’t get to use my maternity towels and baby’s nappies because I used the ones the hospital provided.. Oh, I would advise to get some straws as well.. I couldn’t drink from the glass and I really wished I had them..
All the best and good luck! Let us know when you have your bundle of joy so we can congratulate you!! God bless!

I’d ditch some of the baby stuff and make sure you’ve got your camera/camcorder/etc! :) I don’t think you’ll use the baby clothes as much. It’s great to be prepared though. How exciting.

I just went through this about a month ago….

Make sure your pants are loose and comfy. You won't want anything constricting after delivery (whether c-section or not), believe that! And, possibly hard candy for you to suck on while you are in labor. It keeps you occupied, keeps your mouth moist and helps with the tummy growling. I was in hard labor for 13 hours and those candies really helped during and after.

Maybe small samples of shampoo, conditioner, and mouthwash?

Also, I stripped my clothes and wore the hospital gown during delivery - That way the nurses could get to what they wanted to without having to work around my clothes. So, you might save yourself some space and don't worry about the flannels for the labor bag.

When we were in the hospital, we didn't end up using any of Aiden's (our baby boy) clothes that we brought. The hospital had a ton of comfy little shirts for him. His tender little baby skin wasn't ready for "real clothes" at that point (at least, that's how I felt). We also used their baby blankets, bottles, diapers and wipes. When they are newborns they go through this stuff so fast at the hospital that it was nice (and easier) to use their stuff for a few days and save ours for when we got back hone. You probably won't end up giving baby a bath while you are there - unless the nurses need to for some reason. Then, they might give him a sponge bath with Johnsons shampoo - but they will have that too. (and the lotion)

You'll want to bring a camera with lots of batteries :)

Congratulations and enjoy your beautiful new baby!!!

Edit: If I could do it all over again, here's how I would have done it…

    Hospital bag
    2 pairs of loose pants
    2 loose t-shirts
    4 pairs of undies
toothbrush, shampoo, soap, conditioner, toothpaste and mouthwash
    facial wipes
    Camera, batteries

    Baby
Favorite receiving blanket from baby shower
    Pair of newborn mittens
Nothing else except maybe one outfit for him to take the first pictures in - we just had him take his photos naked wrapped in his first blanket - so, so cute :)

    Labor bag
    Hair ties
    Chap stick
    Hard candy
Towel for car (water breaking and leaking in car)

    And, that's it!

I’m in the UK and had my baby 2 weeks ago, the hospital didn’t provide anything except tea and toast after delivery and a towel to have a bath after.

I would leave your coming home stuff either in the car or get someone to bring it up to you, you’d be surprised how little space you’ll have on the ward, especially when visitors come and bring gifts. I’d say take a few more nappies and pads incase you’re there longer. I bled a lot and soaked a lot of pads and underwear, better safe than sorry! You may want to take a dressing gown with you. Otherwise you have everything covered!

    Good Luck!
