Is 20-22 weeks too early to set up the nursery?

Hi, I have asked this question before and people told me to wait a little longer, after thinking about it I decided they were right, what do you think of this though, is it a little too soon still?

I am 16 weeks pregnant today, last time I asked I was 10 weeks. I want to get the nursery set up because we have had people giving us so much stuff that we have no where for, also we are renovating the house in a month or so and I dont want dust to cover everything for the baby. (I know not a good time to renovate but we HAVE to do it now because of the baby and wedding at the end of the year..) I have my next ob-gyn appointment coming up, I dont quiet know when because I have to arrange travel and all sorts, but we will be finding out the gender, I think I will be around 20-22 weeks by then and I am still being told that it will be too early to set up?

When I say we have been given everything I mean we have been given,
x2 cots
x2 change tables
x42 cloth nappies
x1 baby bath
x6 HUGE bags of toys
x4 bags of baby shampoos, soaps, creams etc.
x7 Cot Sheets
x1 Bassinet
x5 unisex outfits
x3 boys outfits
x2 girls outfits

the list keeps going, it is all sitting in our shed and in our bed room. Our spare room is full of other stuff for the renovations and the room we have set aside for baby is full of baby stuff that I havent had a chance to go through.

I really want to get set up when we know the gender so that it is a calm place and even if the renovations arent finished by the time baby comes we will have somewhere for him/her…

is 20-22 weeks too early??

(sorry about the jumbledness I'm a little frazzled at the moment)

No, i don't think that it is too early at all, it all comes down to personal preference, i think you can set it up anytime you like, i understand about the renovations, we are going through the same things, i am also due on the 19th of june so i'm sixteen weeks also :-) so i will probably set up our nursey at 20-22 weeks also, so don't stress, you do what ever is going to be comfortable and convenient for you and your partner, good luck and congrats :-)

My thoughts have always been that once you are past the mid mark (20 weeks) the baby stuff needs to start being organized. Go ahead! Have fun! Get it done while you have the ambition to do it! And you'll have plenty of time to change it around to achieve the perfect nursery.

no it is not too early. I started around than and just recently finished. Start now because if you start too late than you may not be completely ready for your little one.

It sounds like you have a lot of things to go through so i think IMO 20 weeks would be a good time to start doing that. Finding out the sex of the baby will make it a lot easy to get rid of things you don't need.

set it up whenever you want! im 15 weeks pregnant and i've already got some things set up in my nursery. it's exciting to start setting it up, and plus, i hear it's better to do it in your second trimester when your feeling your best.

This is for your child. Whose permission do you need? As long as your doc says things are going well I would get started. Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely not!!! Go right ahead. It will be easier now for you than if you wait. I've been looking up cribs on Babies R Us and Target, and have seen several people complain about situations where they had to wait for a crib delivery only for their to be damaged items, then wait some more.. sometimes past the baby's arrival!

Oh, go enjoy yourself!!!! :-) It's better to be prepared ahead of time than to suddenly find yourself in a predicament where your doctor has put you on best rest orders or something.

I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and plan on setting up our nursery after the weekend is over.
I have a friend and a sister-in-law who both had theirs done BEFORE 20 weeks, though, so do it whenever you want really.

I'm 22 weeks 2 days and have just begun cleaning out the room to be my nursery. I'm hoping that in the next 2 weeks I can get it painted and the curtains and stuff hung up. So to answer your ?, I think 20 weeks + is a GREAT time to start the nursery!

do it when ever you want to i got all my stuff at 7 months and i set it up then but if you have to set it up to see what you got that's fine i would wait until you know the sex if you plan on painting or anything but really you already got the stuff so its probably unisex so it doesn't really matter anyways and right know you still have energy to do it once your belly starts getting big its going to be a pain to go through stuff and you will get tired quickly trust me my daughter took everything out of me but she would keep me up all night and sleep all day i had no energy at all from about 4 months until well actually she just turned 8months and we started her sleeping in the crib the day after christmas and so i am finally getting good sleep so i also suggest started the baby in the crib or bassinet from the very start i breastfeed my daughter for the first 4 months and it was just easier at night to have her right next to me when she woke up in the middle of the night i just pull her up to me and she ate until she went to sleep but know she screams and cries for a while when i put her to bed because she wants me to lay with her and it breaks my heart anyways good luck congrats
