Baby Nappy Bags | and everything that goes in them.

What do I need to pack for my hospital bag when giving birth?

25
2008

I have seen many lists in books and they all differ. The hospital provides nappies and sleepsuits for the baby. I need to make my bag as light as possible as I have to travel by boat. Can someone give me a list of the basic things I will need for a 4 or 5 night stay.
I'm staying longer as I live on a small Greek island and have to travel to another island to give birth, they keep you in a few days to make sure mother and baby are OK as the journey back is quite long and there is no decent maternity clinic where I live. They definitely provide sleepsuits and nappies etc.., I hope the nappies are diamond studded, they are charging us enough!!!!

i would take the following
for baby:
vests x 5
hat x 1
scratch mits x2
sleep suit / baby grow x 5
pack of newborn nappys x 1
dummy / soother x 2
bibs x 5
coming home out fit x 1
socks if applicable

for you:
banana for energy during labour
small hand held fan
hair band or hair clips
small water sprey to keep u cool
book / magazine
change for telephone- to ring relatives etc

all these things can be given to someone else when u leave so u dont have to carry them home

thick / night time sanitry towels x 1 pack
underwear x 5 or more
nighty x 2 or 3
dressing gown or cardie x 1
slippers / flip flops
wash kit tooth brush hair brush etc
clothes to wear home (prob your early maternity clothes, as i descovered after i had my son, you dont fit back into your normal clothes STRAIGHT away lol ha ha

if your husband is coming to collect you on the day you leave, make him a list of things to bring, i.e baby's coming home outfit, blanket /shawl, car seat, or pram

hope this helps

2 cotton nighties (it's usually hot in hospital)
    Underwear
    Light dressing gown and slippers
    Toiletries
    Comb/brush
    Book/magazine
    Specs?
    Emergency snacks/drinks
That's all I can think of for now - good luck!

are you sure the hospital provides nappys and sleepsuits?it all depends on how long your planning to be in the hospital, i packed my bag like this,
Maternity pads and a few knickers - you really need these
a change of clothes for myself,
a sleepsuit for my baby and a 'coming home' outfit for my baby,
    a brush and hairband,
i did pack alot more but didn't need it

these days, mother's don't stay that long… at least not here in the US… It's usually 2 days, unless complications arise. But all you will need are your nighty, a robe, tooth and hair brushes, undies, slippers and a good supply of great novels lol…. and a change of clothes. I cant think of anything else right now… but i'm sure someone else will lol….

    Best wishes

can i ask where you live for you to have to travel by boat. well bring soap shampoo and conditioner a razor hair brush tooth brush and tooth paste pajamas change of clothes bring lots of sanitary napkins for day time use and the over night kind and lots of changes of panties because you bleed a lot and you could leak a house coat and a towel. you have to bring a car seat for the baby to go home in with 4-7 baby blankets and pack a small diaper bag just in case you don't go home right away. all you would need is sterile bottle nipples formula diaper and wipes and a change of clothes for baby… here in Canada you stay for 3 days if you have a vaginal birth and 5 days if you have a c section.. they provide diapers formula bottles and nipples but no clothes and you only get a package of diapers and two cases of formula when you go home oh and they also don't provide baby wipes oh and i stayed in the hospital nighties the whole time because i didn't want to leak blood on my own clothes because i bleed heavily

maternity pads, nightwear, slippers, toiletries, change of clothes if you prefer or you can wear nighties during the day,i don't know what country you are in but in australia they provided the babies nappies, etc, meals for you so we did'nt need to bring food/drinks,underwear,something to do while relaxing,an outfit to bring baby home in.

In addition to the obvious stuff:
Make sure that you pack lots of knickers (about 2-3 pairs for each day) and good quality maternity pads (sanitary pads are not good enough trust me!!) because you will have a lot of bloody discharge the following week and don't want to stress out about leaking or running out of clean stuff.
Take a camera and spare batteries so you can take lots of pictures of the early days!
    Hope it all goes well!

I packed a diaper bag for the baby for leaving the hospital…it had diapers, wipes, baby blanket, burp cloth, coming home outfit, changing pad. Then I packed my bag, it had a couple of changes of clothes for me, extra panties, 2 gowns, house shoes, toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, my camera, pony tail holders, a deck of cards, some dominoes, my baby book, ….I can't think of anything else off the top of my head but in my oppinion it's better to have too much than not enough :) especially concidering how far awy you are, you can't just have osmeone run home for ya really fast and grab somthing like I could. Good luck!!! I'll be there in about 3 1/2 months myself :)

    Hi

For such a long stay I would pack for the first two days then get partner/parent to bring you some clean clothes etc in when needed. Its easier that way.

    For You….
    Nightdress 2 /Pyjamas 2 pairs-for labour and afterwards
Bed Socks - your feet get cold on hospital floors
Knickers comfy 6 pairs - the comfier the better!
Maternity Bra 3 - easy access and support
Slippers Slip-on style - feet swell after c-section
    Sanitary Towels/Maternity Towels
Shower Gel/Dark Flannel/Shampoo & Conditioner/Dark Towel - get dark ones for obvious messy reasons!
Own Pillow/Breast Feeding Pillow-so you feel at home
Dressing Gown-for night feeds and early mornings
    Deodorant - freshen yourself up
Book/Magazines - lots of time when you have no visitors
Pain Killers/Antacids-suffered with terrible heartburn lastime!
    Breast Pads-obvious reasons
Clean clothes for coming home (jogging bottoms/hooded top/sandles)
Hairbrush/Bobbles - for after the birth as it gets messy!
Lucozade / RedBull / Pringles / Soft Mints / Chocolate Bars

It's a good idea to pack lots of undies as there will be alot of blood after the birth, breast pads and antiseptic type solution for cleansing the nipple area, lots of pads(maternity),slippers, a couple of nighties. You won't be needing any reading material in the first couple of days as you will be mainly concerned with catching up on sleep and asking heaps of questions.Goodluck and kali lefteria!!!!
