Baby Nappy Bags | and everything that goes in them.

Everything you need for a new baby?

I am in the process of compiling a ‘what to buy’ list for my sister. I have tried to include everything I needed for my baby plus a few other bits.

Can you think of anything I may have left off the list?

EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR A NEW BABY

10 vests
10 baby gros
10 bibs
5 pairs of socks
2 hats
2 pairs of scratch mits
5 muslin cloths
grobag
two thick blankets
two thin blankets
baby monitor
bed/cot
moses basket
mobile
room thermometer
rolling mat
play mat
bouncer
swing
pram with foot muff & rain cover
parasol
car seat
chest of drawers/wardrobe
nursing bras
breast pads
gripe water
breast pump?
bottles?
formula?
2 dummies
pram toys
few other toys
talc
changing mat
nappies
wipes
2 towels
baby wash
baby bath
changing bag
cotton wool
nail kit
vicks
sudocrem
food storage containers
feeding spoons

Wow, that’s some list!
In fact, you might find that you won’t even need some of the things on there - or you at least won’t need them for a while. You don’t need a baby swing and a bouncer too - they both serve the same purpose really. You probably won’t need a parasol for some time seeing as summer is coming to an end (did it ever start??? Bloody British weather…) and a lot of mums don’t bother getting in the formula/bottles etc, seeing as it makes it so much easier to give up breastfeeding if the equipment is there and waiting. If she struggles and decides to bottle feed, it’s easy enough to get that stuff. You did miss out a steriliser, but again, unless she’s bottle feeding she won’t need that until she’s weaning onto solids at around 6 months.
Best of luck, it’s nice that you’re helping her out - my sister’s bloody useless!

Pregnancy and labour help?

Ok I got some questions that I want to have the awnsers from other mums and not the midwife (though i will ask the midwife aswell)

1) What would happen if i dont realise my waters have broken?
2)What does it feel like when your waters break?
3)Do always sanitry pads work as maternity pads? (I cant find maternity pads)
4)What is the best brand of breast pad
5)How long would the keep me in hospital for (this is my first baby)
6) What do contractions feel like?
7)What do I need to pack for the baby in my hospital bag (i.e. how many nappies, do i take my own formula if i wish to bottle feed how many baby clothes etc etc)
8)Can I take my own drinks/food into the hospital (i'm a lucozade addict lol)
9)How long till after the baby is born can i go out (i.e. to the shops to to a realative)
10) what did u find the best form of pain relief?
11)What are the best positions to get in whilst giving birth.
I'm in the UK just in case it changes things

Thanks in advance!

1) My first baby I had my waters broken for me. (Yuck and ouch!lol) as I was overdue. My second baby I heard a pop and the had a gush of water which made me feel a little empty yet heavier. She was well overdue. At the hospital the 'hind' waters went and that was like wetting myself with no control for about 10 mins, with the gush getting stronger with each contraction.
2)I didn't really feel anything except wet! lol
3)I used san towles for the heaviest flow as i couldn't find any either. they worked fine but change reg as you will bleed a lot!
4)I used johnsons but when I ran out I used a Panty liner with cotton layer cut in two halves and this worked amazingly. Much more absorbant, half the size so no ugly round shapes through your tops and best of all half the price x
5)I was allowed home after 10 hours with my first due to having severe stitches. Some went home after 7 hours and other on the ward stayed a few days. It depends how the baby is delivered and what state you are both in post birth. This cannot really be planned until after delivery. sorry x
6)Like HORRENDOUS period pain, but you get a break between each one and no pain at all during the break. Plus they start off mild and get stronger so by the time you have the worst ones you will have got used to the pain.
7)Take a good few nappies. they dont go through as many in the very early days but the poo is like black tar make sure you have enough for up to 2 days/nights. you can always get more from the hospital/family visitor if you end up staying longer or running out. They will encourage you to try breastfeeding but have formular and bottles there too if needed. Dont take your own as it shows u r not willing to try feeding yourself and they may be funny with you (My hospital was..!) Make sure you take a few vests and baby grows as well as scratch mits and a cardi or coat. Plus a blanket as the hospital ones are quite stiff.
8) You can take your own drinks if you need to but they will prob have supplies there and you will be given your meals. Take Lucozade in case they dont have any. You may be told not to eat anything if you are having C section.
9) depends on you! I was desperate to show my first off and went shopping and reletive visiting within 48 hours. i had a lot of negative comments from random people saying I was 'silly' though! :0( my second i had an epidural and was exhausted so I stayed in and had people visit instead for the first three days x
10) My hospital offered a half and half epidural which meant I could still move into different positions/stand if needed. it was excellent as I felt when to push etc which a normal epidural does not allow for. Other than that Pethidine was rubbish and gas and air made me sick!! See what works best for you at the time but warn them early if you want to go for an epidural as they will need to get an anestitist and they cant do it if you are too far gone! lol
11) I had one laying down and one squatting. I couldn't tell you which was best as i was on autopilot and just got on with it.!

Good luck with it all!! you will do great. The best advice i can offer is to keep calm and happy.. makes things go alot quicker. As soon as u panick it will make the labour go slower and more painful xx

Dreaming about people I have never met?

"I dreamt that I was was babysitting in this flash house. There was a little 3 years old boy, a little girl not even a year old. They were sleeping in the parents bedrooms. The little boy was awake very chatty. Just before I tucked them into bed I had to change their nappies. As I was about to do it there were huntsmen spiders all over the place. I found a plastic bag to collect them as fast as I could so the children wouldnt be scared. As I got back to changing them the parents came home from their night out furious that the boy was still awake & I hadnt been quick enough to get them tidied up & tucked in. I was 'please there were spiders everywhere & I needed to pay rent & it was my first night'. They had none of it. I got sent home in disgrace. It was dark & my car was trashed to pieces with a note on the driver wheel saying 'where are you? You missed a 6.30 counselling appointment' - from my Mam & her boyfriend." The place & people were unfamiluar. I had more unf. dreams after that

This is an anxiety dream about how you feel misunderstood.

You're doing your best, taking care of children, even behaving heroicly, and yet no one thanks you, let alone acknowledges your ability to keep them safe.

And yet while you're taking care of business, (working) someone trashes your car– was it your mom and her boyfriend? Do you find them harassing you in your waking life? If not, they might be representing something that's "bugging" you in your waking life.

I would journal for a few weeks and see if there's a common theme of something that's bothering you. It'll help you pinpoint the problem, so you can take care of it.

Blessings!

Whats the silliest parenting "mistake" you have made?

I will give you my most recent stupid, absent minded mistake…..last week i was trying to get my daughter ready for day care (i had a tummy bug and she hadn't slept very well due to teething so i had been up and down with my problems and hers and had all of 3 hours sleep)…So i had all her clothes layed out, fresh nappy, i undressed her rubber lotion on her and dressed her…. We jumped in the car and i took her up to day care (i was supposed to work but because i was sick stayed home in bed) when i got home i walked into the lounge where i had dressed her and started to tidy up, when i realised i had forgetten to change her nappy……i had sent the poor munchkin to day care in the same nappy she had had on since 7 pm the night before, i felt terrible and embarrassed….im hoping i am not the only absent minded terrible mother!!!!!!

PS please dont bag me out for putting my daughter in day care while i was home…..i was sooooooo sick i could barely function!!!

I went to my parents home with our baby girl in the stroller, I did a bit of shopping on the way there as my wife was still at work (We worked shifts then) My mother had taken our daughter out of the stroller and placed the shopping I had bought on the seat of the stroller not realising and only stopping for a few minutes I said goodbye to my father and proceeded home, when I arrived home I opened the front door and eased the stroller inside when I discovered she was not in the stroller! In a blind panic I rushed outside thinking she had fallen out of the stroller to be met by my mother in their car with our baby in tow! I felt a complete idiot! and still have not lived it down to this day!

Egyptians: What can we all do to help save the environment?

What small things can we change about our everyday lives in Cairo to help preserve the earth’s natural resources?
Please give your opinions on any measures we can take - big or small - e.g. save water by reducing the amount of times we wash our cars
refuse to accept unnecessary plastic bags from shop sellers
use washable nappies instead of pampers
ban old cars
all switch to unleaded petrol
reduce AC emissions?
There are many many ways.
What would you think we should ALL be doing?
As a nation, do we really care?

Well Jannah, finally someone asked that Q. that was annoying me and whenever i told my friends to help just reduce the amount of pollution, they say why us??

lsn, we all MUST start with ourselves, but u may say why me?! they are all doing it, i.e: throwing trash…..well, they are right why change when no one will, com’on who are we kidding, we wont EVER be like the usa, uk, china and all these major extra important countries.
cuz if we start with the simple ppl like the ppl who live in local areas and these random places, will they ever stop polluting the air, i mean lets face it when u’re going to nasr city or Maadi…..I swear i see black smoke coming up from neath the bridge.
Rice leaves burning or whatever the hell is related to rice, what shall we do about that??
Ok, remind u of a not so pleasent smell of burning garbage in the way to dream park :-(
See lots of things to correct.
But, about what u mentioned, I think washable nappies arnt good for babies, imean if its just about the dipers, we could like throw them away,, i mean do u see a BIG flying piece of POOP flying next to ur car window?? Think not, anyway, we could definitly reduce the amount of using tissues i guess, though i personally cant since i have an obsession with tissues(I even wrote a poem for it :-P)
unleaded petrol, i think there isnt any petrol left in stations anyway, and ppl will get anything they can get their hands on and afford!
AC emissions i could definitly help u in this, like turn the ac on in the morning and like in the evening turn it off!!

See Jannah, We all, deny it or not, love THIS country of ours, so we want to help, but we need like a Brain-washing machine to direct the ppl to the right, cuz we all screwed it up in a way or another.
We may do the least thing, that will help, TIE the garbage plastic bags really well so when the garbage collector comes, he doesnt spill all the garbage out, i mean the smell, aghhhh really gross.
We may also stop throwing the garbage from the cars, i mean who lets his child do that, CLAIMING to be civilized, ummm NOT :-S
This annoys me cuz i do as much as i can to stop this nothingthless going on, but sorry to say this there’s nothing we can do to try to save it NOW!

Huggies VS Pampers?

Which nappy do you prefer? Huggies or Pampers?

I have been using Huggies for my daughter (now 5 months) since she was born and lately I have noticed that Huggies nappies are getting worse. They split all the time and that SAM gel goes everywhere! Often they arrive in the bag and the fasteners are already loose. I am seriously considering changing nappies - any problems with Pampers??

I actually preferred Pampers, I thought they were as equally good yet a few dollars cheaper

What can wait until after the birth?

Or whats best have prepared?
I mean things like a nappy changing bag/travel cots- Would I need to buy this before or after the birth?
I have most things now I THINK i need such as:
Baby Carrier
Car Seat
Moses Basket
Pram
Nappies
Baby grows and other hospital items(cotton wool, maternity pads etc etc)
Im getting the cot and bedding set in next few weeks
Sterliiser
Bottles
Car sun visor for baby.
Baby bath.

Thats pretty much the basis of what I have.
Can you think of anything else I really need to get before the birth?

I mean I dont have things like
Travel cot
Changing bag
Stair gates
Mobile for cot
and the rest?

I hope this question makes sense! Im 30weeks due Nov26th With baby No 1.

Thanks in adance :)
I would wait until your child is mobile to start baby proofing the house…so you don’t need to get gates yet. And as for the travel stuff…I would wait on that a bit…you won’t be traveling right away with your little one.
It sounds like you have a good amount of stuff so far…so I think you will be fine…you figure out what you need as you go…all babies are different, therefor they need different things. ie: my daughter is a huge drooler and I discovered I needed a lot more bibs and onesies than what I had.

well it definately sounds like you’ve thought of everything your very well prepared!when is the baby due?if it due in the colder weather then perhaps you could get one of those snowsuits…i found them great for keeping my daughter toasty warm when she was newborn, especially when she was brought home from hospital or a couple of cardigans for the colder weather
