take note of most of the answers you need to distract him or you could make a game of it ,i used to make a big thing on how smelly and dirty the Nappy was and take to the bin making a lot of fuss on the way , then letting them do it and get a clean one out, but it also got them potty trained a lot faster too, saying :o: look your own little toilet and no more smelly nappy's. i did that with my children and now my grandchildren.but remember it wont work over night and you have to be consistent and your partner has to do the same.
References :
Emma started doing this around the same age too. You do whatever you feel comfortable with....but Emma gets told no and I hold her legs firmly. If she persists she gets a tap on the leg. It rarely happens anymore. She is ten months old. I just won't have my children be naughty b/c I fail to discipline them. I know spanking is controversial...but I don't judge to each is own.
References :
When my son was at that stage, I started changing him on my lap, it worked perfectly as he didn't have the floor below him to anchor his feet for the back arches and bucking! good luck.
References :
i had the same with my son and i remember how upsetting it was, and so do so many other mothers...there is nothing else you can do that you are already not doing, you sound very calm and caring.
If you cant change the nappy then what is the worst that can happen? he is not going to explode if he wanders about for a while without a nappy.
Try taking off the nappy and cleaning him up and NOT putting on the nappy for 15-20 minute and trying to defuse the situation? He may wee but its only wee. By the time he is relaxed again and not expecting the battle he may just lay back and let you put a clean nappy back on....worth a try....good luck

I've never tried it but the idea of a nappy belt really doesn't appeal to me....sorry, but physically strapping down a baby to change it doesn't sound very acceptable to me?
References :
If you get all your wipes, cream etc ready by the side before you start .... give him a picture book to look at . . . it IS possible to hold him down with one hand and change his nappy with the other .. my son used to do exactly the same ... with a bit of practise you can do the one handed/restrained method ...lmao ...
good luck ...!!
References :
We haven't hit that stage yet, but we do have a mobile hanging above the changing table that our little guy only sees when he gets changed. i make sure to spin it while he's up there and he doesn't even pay attention to what I'm doing. you could also try giving him a favorite toy to hold or put something cool on the ceiling above where you change him (a mirror? or bright colored picture?).

Hopefully he'll outgrow this, but my guess is he'll only get squirmier. If he's just wet, try changing him without laying him down.
References :
i give my little one a toy to play with or have her big brother keep the top half active while i change the bottom half and some times i end up changing her while she is trying to crawl away (often resulting in a crooked nappy) once they learn to crawl changing a baby seems like roping a calf.
References :
I just want to let you know that you are not alone. This is sooo common..... yet can be very annoying. I use a chaging table... which helps.... on my changing table I have a changing pad. The changing pad has a belt.... which helps keep them in place.
