Baby Nappy Bags | and everything that goes in them.

Baby Nappy Bags.

The birth of a new baby is a wonderful thing, a new little life, so precious, so vulnerable, and so perfect. There is so much to learn and so much to get used to especially if this is your first baby, and you will find that there so many choices of different products and services to help you along the way. A Good nappy bag will be one of the most important accessories that you will need for baby, and you will use it nearly on a daily basis. Baby nappy bags come in lots and lots of different styles, shapes, sizes and colors. It is just up to you to choose one that is suitable to you and does everything you need it to do.

Baby nappy bags carry everything you need when you are out and about with your baby, whether you are at the park, the beach, doing the shopping or visiting friends or family, it carries everything you need. So there are lots of things to consider before you purchase your baby nappy bag, including how much stuff will you need to carry, and therefore how big will the bag need to be. Some baby nappy bags are actually quite small in size, while others are really very large, and some parents actually find it beneficial to have 2 different bags altogether, one for the small trips and outings, where you don’t feel that you require much stuff for baby, and another one that allows for you to carry a lot more things, when you are planning to be out for the whole day.

Personally I feel that if you choose wisely in the first place, that you should be able to just have the one bag, I would not want to have multiple baby nappy bags, I would get confused as to which one I needed to take. So make sure you think about what you will need, and how much space that will take up, also whether you would prefer a backpack style, carry bag, sling bag, or one that allows you to carry it in a variety of ways.

Some of the kinds of things you are going to have to carry with your baby will include:
A change mat to lay baby on
Spare nappies, fabric or disposable type
Baby wipes, powder and creams
Bags for soiled clothing and nappies
Nappy rash cream
Extra clothing for baby
Bibs, burping cloths and pacifier
Bottles and formula if bottle feeding
Solid foods and snacks as baby grows

Another important point about baby nappy bags is the layout of the bags, and the number and the positioning of the pockets within the bags. Some tend to have plenty of pockets to hold all of the little bits and pieces while others just have a main compartment where everything goes. Both have their pros and cons, and mainly it comes down to what you as the user, prefer. Ideally I think you’ll need a certain amount of pockets, just to keep everything at hands reach when you are changing baby’s nappy, it will make it easier and less frustrating if you know where things are and can easily lay your fingers on them.

My best advice is to do your research before you buy, if you are buying online, read the reviews, and see if the purchasers of the baby nappy bags were satisfied and happy with their choices. One in particular that I think is a great buy, because of its ability to be comfortably carried or hung from the stroller, the 10 pockets it has for organization, its color, style and all round great usability, is the Skip Hop Dash Canvas nappy (diaper) bag. It comes in a few different colors to choose from as well, it really is one of the stylish and functional baby nappy bags you will love.

Baby nappy bags or baby diaper bags, by Oioi.

Lots of parents just love the baby nappy bags made by Oioi and for good reason. Oioi Baby nappy bags are the creation of a mother by the name of Lisa Bennetts who was inspired to create a label of sophisticated baby bags that enabled mothers to look and feel great, after the birth of her own daughter, over 11 years ago. The Oioi brand was originally and Australian designed brand that has now grown into the worldwide respected and sought after designer label that it is today.

Why is that? Well that is simple, quality, style and design, practicality and reliability. These baby nappy bags are made by a mother who knows what other mothers need, she saw what was needed and she created it. Now all over the world, there are mothers who would never use any other nappy changing bags, bar an Oioi baby nappy bag, they swear by them, they love them and they won’t leave home without them.

The 5 most important things you need in baby nappy bags?

pocket nappies                                  pocket nappies

Well to start with, the most obvious thing would be spare nappies or diapers. Now the choice is of course yours as to which type you are going to be using, cloth nappies or disposable nappies/diapers. For me it really depends where you are going and for how long, I personally love cloth nappies, in particular the new pocket nappies by Bumgenius, but that is only my opinion. I love them because they work great, are nearly as easy as disposables and they are basically worldwide, so a lot of input has gone into them to make them the superior nappy/diaper they are today.

However, sometimes when you are out and about with baby, then disposables are the way to go. Personally I recommend having a couple of them in your baby bag, even if you are personally against using them, as they do come in handy sometimes. It really depends how long you will be lugging soiled cloth nappies around with you for. If I was going to a friend’s house, I’d take cloth, but if I was shopping for the whole day, I think I’d be more inclined to go disposable, more hygienic in the long run, but try to choose an environmentally friendly brand.

Now a change mat is a must and if you have a good quality baby bag, then it will come with one in it. If not, you need to buy one. You will need to have baby wipes when changing diapers and nappies, some bags have a dispensing system built into them, others you will just need to buy a portable travel tub of wipes to carry inside the bag. Disposable diaper or nappy sacks, these are the ones that you put the soiled nappies and diapers in to dispose of them or to carry home. Not super great for the environment, but they are something you will need. Again some baby nappy bags come wet a wet bag which is washable and designed for carrying soiled diapers, nappies and clothes home in. It comes down to the bag yet again.

Another important thing is a good barrier cream and baby powder. Again just the little extras you may need when changing baby’s nappy. Try to get a good lanolin one, they seem to work a lot better, and they stay on baby’s skin, unlike some of the others that absorb in rather quickly and don’t protect very much at all. This will keep baby much happier. You can also use it on any little scratches and bites your baby may get while you are out.

Now one thing that a lot of new parents tend to forget is spare clothes! Not only for baby but for you too. A spare shirt for yourself is a must have thing in any baby bag. You also must carry a couple of changes for baby, and don’t forget that the air conditioning in shopping centres and such places may be too cold for baby, so you may need some warmer items depending where you are going. But mainly the spare clothes are just in case baby has an ‘explosive’ bowel movement or happens spit up all over him/herself and you. Hence why the need for a spare shirt for yourself. Burping cloths are great too, but don’t get caught out, you may only be getting baby out of the car seat, actually not burping him or her when it happens.

You will find lots of other things that you will need and want in your baby bag, but these would have to be the 5 top items to always remember. And if you happen to always leave spare clothes in the bag, don’t forget to keep an eye on the size of the clothing, you don’t want to get caught out that baby has outgrown them when you need them. I remember one trip of mine, when my daughter soiled all the changes of clothes I had for her, but I knew I had a spare set under the seat in the car. Unfortunately they had been there for some time, and although they were sealed in a bag, and still nice and fresh, they were too small!! Opps.

Baby nappy bags for dads too.

baby nappy bags for dads

Generally when someone says baby nappy bags you instantly imagine a bag covered in baby designs, flowers, cute little animals, teddy bears, or something like that, you know the kind of bag, it stands out like a sore tooth that it is a nappy bag, no confusing it for anything else. So, it stands to reason then why most dads want nothing to do with them, it would be like asking a man to carry your fancy little handbag. Not exactly a real masculine look for a man.

So why not consider buying a baby nappy bag that is stylish and functional for both parents? One that both the mum and the dad can carry around without feeling a little embarrassed? The colour or pattern on the nappy bag will not affect the bags intended use, a plain coloured nappy bag will do the same job as a fancy frilly baby nappy bag, but you might increase the chances of the dad actually carrying it and helping out.

In the past it has nearly always been mums that provide most of the primary care for their babies, and the products available to these new mothers have generally all had a feminie focus to them. So even when dad has the chance to get in and help, he is faced with all these things that are frilly and fancy and petite and basically not very user friendly when it comes to him. Finally a new era has begun and the manufacturers have realised that dads are important too and are now producing products that dads can feel more comfortable and at ease with. It has taken a long time for it to happen, but finally it has and now there are a lot more options available for both parents.

Some new parents are opting to buy two baby nappy bags, one for mum that she packs and organises the way she likes it, and one for dad to organise how he prefers it. Unless as parents you have vastly different tastes, I don’t think you need to go to the extremes of buying two baby nappy bags, as most dads won’t use theirs too often, but rather pick one that you both feel comfortable and happy with, and that dad will feel comfortable to carry when he is out with baby.

On the other hand, if you have two children in nappies/diapers, then perhaps a bag for each of you would be the best option, especially if you are travelling. The extra space that 2 baby nappy bags will provide you with will be needed for the extra items you’ll need to carry if you are travelling with two children who both require nappies/diapers.

So if you are having a baby, or you know someone who is, give a bit of thought to dear ole dad and don’t go excluding him from the picture. Years ago babies were women’s business and men were not really involved, partly by choice and partly because they were basically excluded. Nowadays dads are getting more involved, they want to be part of their children’s day to day care and some really enjoy their babies as much as the mum does. So why not, when it comes to choosing between all the different baby nappy bags available, pick one with dad in mind, pick one that he’ll be proud to carry, rather than embarrassed.
